HOW INSPIRITUS DISASTER RELIEF RESPONDED TO HOMEOWNERS NEEDS AFTER THE 2021 FLOODS.
Middle Tennessee's 2021 flood event left six people dead, hundreds rescued from flooded cars and homes, and extensive damage to businesses and homes. It is marked as the worst local flood in the last decade.
Inspiritus disaster relief teams mobilized quickly and spent two months providing free muck & gut services, debris removal, and mold sanitation to flood-damaged homes throughout South Nashville. As temperatures rose after the flood, waterlogged flooring and walls started to exhibit rapid mold growth – a condition which poses long-term health risks for residents. Inspiritus trained and equipped volunteer teams (sent by Hands On Nashville) with full-body personal protective equipment (PPE), such as Tyvek suits and N95 respirators masks, and led them in to remove mold and debris from flooded households.
Overall, Inspiritus’ Nashville Flood Response accomplished:
41 homes completed
85 jobs completed
1,382 volunteer hours
396 individual volunteer days
We are incredibly proud of the Nashville Flood Response Volunteer Team Leads: Nicholas Rhine, Dave Marsh, and Julie Dimitrov. Together, they led amazing local volunteers in partnership with Hands On Nashville to clean out more than 40 flooded homes.
