Chief Executive Officer

John has more than 25 years experience in ministry on nonprofit leadership.  Before joining Inspiritus in February 2017, he served as the CEO at Action Ministries in Atlanta.  John is ordained as a minister in the United Methodist Church.

Michelle Angalet

Chief Operating Officer

Michelle joined Inspiritus in January 2019 after five years of serving on its Board of Directors.  As a deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for the last 12 years, she has held both congregational and judicatory leadership roles.  Michelle brings her passion for accompanying and serving the neighbor and her relationships with local faith communities to the Inspiritus mission of guiding individuals and families on a path from surviving to thriving.

Kirby Nickerson

Chief Financial Officer

Kirby Nickerson began his work with Lutheran Services of the Carolinas in 2012, and with Inspiritus in 2019. Kirby holds BA degrees in both Economics and Business Administration from Gordon College, Wenham, Massachusetts and received his MBA from Florida State University. A licensed nursing home administrator, Kirby has 18 years of experience in not-for-profit senior care with responsibilities that have included oversight of financial operations, as well as marketing and information systems.

Virginia Spencer

Chief Development Officer

Virginia is a dynamic nonprofit advocate with 21 years of development experience in the corporate and nonprofit sectors. Virginia studied Political Science & Philosophy at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Non-Profit Management in the MPA program at Georgia State University, and as a Policy Fellow with the Georgia Partners for Excellence in Education. Virginia has a passion for inspiring leaders to invest in solutions that empower their communities to thrive.

Sherry Buresh

Executive Director of Disaster Relief Programs

Sherry joined Inspiritus in July 2019. Sherry's executed 60 national and international responses over 16 years. Sherry's expertise is coaching and training partners and volunteers before, during and after emergencies of all kinds. She sets up volunteer operations centers in areas of greatest need, and manages all field operations.


Janet Arning

Executive Director of Middle Tennessee

Janet joins the Inspiritus team with 29 years of experience in nonprofit program development and management in Nashville, TN. She earned her Bachelor of Science at Middle Tennessee State University.

LaWanda Crawl

Executive Director of Disability Services

LaWanda joined the Inspiritus Team in January 2023. She comes with over 20 years of experience in the field of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, working for non-profit and for-profit organizations. LaWanda has a BA degree in Psychology from The College of Wooster and a MPA degree with a specialization in Healthcare Administration from Cleveland State University. Helping people is her passion, along with ensuring compliance, quality service delivery, and improving processes.

Aimee Zangandou

Executive Director of Refugee and Immigrant Services

Aimee came to the United States through the Refugee Resettlement Program in 1997. She joined Inspiritus’ refugee and immigration team in 2009. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Clark Atlanta University.

Suzette Roberts

Executive Director of Children and Family Services

Suzette rejoined Inspiritus in March of 2020 and brings with her 25+ years of child welfare experience. She holds a Bachelor degree from Brooklyn College, NY; a Master of Science degree from Audrey Cohen College, NY; and a Master of Social Work degree from Adelphi University, NY, and has been a licensed social worker since 2006. Suzette’s passion is improving outcomes for children and families and inspiring the next generation of social workers.
